Pentium D / Extreme Edition & Quad Core class heatsinks tested
at 150W
Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 /
Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient
temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test

Frostytech tests
with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of existing Intel CPU
families, 150W and 85W.
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775 version of FrostyTech's synthetic
thermal test platform first, the Prolimatech Megahalems heatsink maintains an
excellent result of just 15.0°C over ambient with the 80CFM fan (53.0dBA noise).
Switching to the 50CFM fan results in a rise over ambient temperature of just
16.8°C over ambient.
Prolimatech's Megahalems heatsink was then tested with an
85W heat load. In this test the Megahalems easily maintained an extremely low
temperature result of 9.2°C over ambient with the 80CFM fan and 10.2°C over
ambient with the 50CFM fan.
Fantastically low CPU die temperatures
really...
On a side note, while Frostytech tests with a maximum
150W heat load, it was surprising how cool the entire test setup ran. I won't
hazard a guess, but I expect the Megahalems could easily handle loads of 220W or
more...
Prolimatech's Megahalems heatsink is arguably one of
the best heatsinks available on the market for Intel socket 775 processor and
AMD socket AM2 chips, and well worth the modest $60 investment. The cooler is
well made, the mounting system refreshingly uncomplicated and robust, and it
cools very well. Build quality is first rate.
On the
Intel synthetic thermal test platform especially, the Megahalems heatsink ranked
in with the second coolest results Frostytech has seen to date! Highly
recommended for those whose PC's can accommodate the 160mm height, and who
aren't put off by the heatsink's 790gram weight.
