Equipped with a large 80mm fan the Arkua 8456X8T is a pretty low noise heatsink all things considered. I would recommend a fan of this type for anyone looking to build, or retrofit an older, louder computer to something a little quieter. To listen to this heatsink for yourself in operation, be sure to click on the little headphones icon below and download the Acoustic Sample MP3 file.

Sound Level Measurements:

Listening to the actual noise a heatsink makes allows you to hear what pure numbers alone cannot get across. To further emphasize FrostyTech's reliance on cold hard facts when evaluating a heatsink, we also take Decibel readings with a sound level meter. These results may be higher than the manufacturer's listed specs, but then again these are real world measurements. Measurements are made on the dB (A) scale.

Weighing in at 46.5 dB, the Arkua 8456X-8T is nice and quiet compared to some of the other heatsinks here. With that large 80mm fan it will be interesting to see just how well the cooler handles the heat in the next set of tests.
