Globalwin CPS25603-16 Heatsink Review

When you're at the local computer store, and you've just bought yourself a new (and pricey) processor often times you'll be tempted to pick up the most inexpensive heatsink you can find. At times like this you may be confronted with a less than great selection of coolers to choose from. That doesn't mean you have to settle for less, it just means you have to carefully choose from what's available.

Since Globalwin are fairly well known, chances are that this hypothetical computer store has at least a few of their more common OEM grade heatsinks up for grabs. Generally not costing more than about $15USD, these heats are pretty easy to find, but do the perform as well as they look? Time to test and find out!

Designed for:

Intel FC-PGA, PGA, VIA Cyrix III.

To OEM or not to OEM

Choosing an OEM class heatsink means you get an inexpensive heatsink with questionable performance characteristics. In this case Globalwin have developed a heatsink with some standard features, an extra sized fan, and an easy to use clip design. The heatsink is large, and the fins are plentiful, so this cooler looks like it could be a good choice for the budget minded consumer.

As we have seen in the past, looks don't always indicate the true colours of a heatsink. Often it is the tiny details to attention which tell us how much thought and design has gone into a particular cooling design. Large fan for instance may improve performance, but they can also illustrate a shortcoming in the fin design.
