There have been so many online reviews of this heatsink that if you've never heard the term SuperOrb, or don't know what it looks like then well.... you shouldn't be here (but you're still welcome :-).

The base of the Super Orb is milled flat, although it is not smooth by any means. The milling leaves little ridges on the base, which can be removed fairly easily if desired with a bit of lapping. Even in this state the heatsink manages to perform very well. The square bit of aluminum sheet is pressed over the circular base to ensure the springy retention clip stays in place throughout the life of your heatsink.
With the top fan removed we can see the familiar Thermaltake heatsink fan which is screwed into the base of the Superorb. Another fan sits at the very top of the fins and creates extra airflow in a region that otherwise would not see as much movement.
From the side, the Super Orb stands in all its Super Glory. With two fans and 70mm of cooling height, this little puppy works wonders on hot processors, and best of all doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
In a close-up shot of the base of the super Orb the small ridges left over from the milling process are a bit more visible. During our tests, we did not remove them at all. A small amount of AOS thermal compound was used however.

Let's see how this heatsink performed against a few other ones we've looked at previously. Namely the King Cooler Thermal Buster, and CoolerMaster's CH5-5K12 dual heat piped heatsink. But first, a little explanation on how we set about testing our heatsinks via a synthetic heatsource.
