FrostyTech Mk.III Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Intel Core i7, Extreme Edition class heatsinks tested at a 200W heat load.
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm copper interface die with 200W heat load on the Intel version of the Mk.III Test Platform. Temperature results listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

*heatsinks are ranked according to the 125w thermal test results column (rise over ambient temp.). low temperatures with low noise levels are considered best. for reference heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more detailed results reside in each specific heatsink review.

Intel's LGA2011 processors have a listed thermal output of 130W TDP. Since overclocking can boost heat output higher, Frostytech's Intel socket LGA2011 synthetic thermal test platform stresses socket LGA2011/1366 compatible heatsinks with a 200W heat load.

[ Furthermore, because both the AMD Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS) and Intel LGA2011 IHS measure ~38x38mm, these test results can be extrapolated to represent heatsinks used in high power AMD platforms. ]

With a 200W heat load applied by the Intel LGA2011/1366 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Silverstone NT01-Pro heatsink achieved a relatively average result of 35.8°C over ambient with both 80mm Silverstone Suscool 81 fans spinning at full RPM. Slowing down the pair of 80mm fans to 900RPM when faced with a 200W heat load is not such a good idea. Under these rather stressful thermal test conditions the Silverstone NT01-Pro heatsink could at best manage an unsatisfactory test temperature of 52.6°C over ambient.

What's the bottom line on Silverstone's NT01-Pro low profile SFF/HTPC/4U rack case heatsink? The NT01-Pro is good for a wide range of modest TDP processors from both the Intel and AMD stables. I'd suggest any processors with a TDP of 150W or less will be easily managed by the heatsink, so long as fan speed is kept high. At lower fan speeds the NT01-P heatsink was really only able to manage with the 85W TDP test scenario. As for 200W TDP processors - the Silverstone NT01-P is a little out gunned for it's own good.
