Raijintek Themis Heatsink Review
Abstract: 'Themis', as you're no doubt are already aware from your days in school, is the Greek goddess of "devine law." If you skipped school, you may have already met Themis in person... in a court room. Themis is the bronze lass holding the sword behind her back...

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

Raijintek's Themis heatsink ships with a 120mm PWM fan. The 158mm tall cooler incorporates three 8mm diameter copper heatpipes which are exposed at the base. Each aluminum fin measures 0.3mm thick and is spaced 2.0mm from the next. The bottom-most fin is elevated 33mm for clearance.

From the side you can see the three 8mm diameter heatpipes rising up the 116mm tall aluminum fin stack. The heatpipes are placed in the region receiving the highest airflow from the 120mm fan.

The exposed heatpipe base measures 51x41mm in size. Looking at the top of the heatsink, we can see some minor cut outs to the leading and trailing edges of the aluminum fins.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks, and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface Finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is Surface Flatness. This is tested with an engineer's straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axes.

The base of the Themis heatsink has a sanded surface finish with a surface roughness of approximately ~32 microinches. The base is slightly concave in one axis and wavy in the opposite. The copper edges of the heatpipes are little higher than the aluminum. Furthermore, some portions of the heatpipes are pressed below the surface of the aluminum. The exposed heatpipe design is pretty forgiving, so these defects don't have as big an impact as you might anticipate.

Next, heatsink sound level comparisons.
