360° View - Coolink Corator DS Heatsink

Coolink's Corator DS ships with a 1700RPM 120mm PWM fan set within the body of the heatsink. Only one set of fan wire clips are supplied, power is supplied by a four-pin PWM connector. Four 8mm diameter copper heatpipes extend from the base of the heatsink to the top of the twin 105mm tall fin stacks. One set of aluminum fins is spaced 3.0mm apart, the other set 2.0mm apart. Each aluminum fin measures 0.5mm thick. The heatsink stands 160mm tall, the first fin 44mm above the base.

The fins of the Corator DS have a minor dimple surface texture and a serrated patch positioned fore/aft of the 120mm fan's motor hub. The heatsink has a footprint of roughly 141mm x 119mm. The aluminum fins are press-fit over the four 8mm diameter heatpipes. Elastomer strips are visible along the inner edges of both fin towers, these help prevent vibration noises from the fan being transmitted to the rest of the heatsink and computer system.

The copper base of the Coolink Corator DS heatsink measures 39x40mm in size, the entire base area measures 49x50mm. This is an exposed heatpipe cooler but as the manufacturer has used copper inserts between the four heatpipes that feature is not readily visible. Note the asymmetrical fin pitch of the Corator DS heatsink in the side profile, the fan must always be mounted so that air is drawn in through the fin tower with the slightly wider spacing.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks, and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface Finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is Surface Flatness. This is tested with an engineers straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axis.

The base of the Coolink Corator DS heatsink has a sanded surface finish, with a surface roughness of approximately 32 microinches. The base is very slightly convex in both axis. Of special note are the copper inserts between the four 8mm diameter copper heatpipes which create a uniformly copper surface for the processor to make contact with. Coolink call this technique 'gapless direct touch technology'.
