Pentium D / Extreme Edition & Quad Core class heatsinks tested
at 150W
Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 /
Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient
temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test

processors vary in power output between single and multi-core models, so
frostytech tests heatsinks with two thermal loads that represent the upper limit
of each cpu family, 150w and 85w. 
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775
version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Tuniq Tower 120
Extreme heatsink yields a result worthy of the Top 5 Heatsink charts indeed! The rise above ambient
temperature result was just 14.1°C, with 43.5dBA noise. That is the lowest
result Frostytech has seen on the Intel synthetic test platform to
date!
Tuniq's
Tower 120 Extreme heatsink was then tested with a 85W heat load, and in this
test environment maintained a low 8.4°C rise over ambient temperature at stock
fan speed.
For the
next round of tests the 120mm fan speed was decreased to 1000RPM, causing noise
levels to fall from 43.5 dBA to 37.4 dBA. With this slower fan speed, the
embedded 120mm fan was able to keep temperatures on the 150W synthetic test
platform at a steady 20.5°C over ambient. Next came the 85W test, which resulted
in a 12.1°C rise in temperature over ambient.
To put that another way, a decrease in fan speed from
2000 to 1000RPM resulted in a rise in temperature on the 150W synthetic
temperature test by 6.4°C. For the 85W test scenario, a drop in fan speed caused
temperatures to rise by a minor amount, just 3.7°C. Evidently, Tuniq's Tower
120 Extreme is capable of running very quiet indeed. Although it is big and
bulky, if your computer case has the room for it, Tuniq's Tower 120 Extreme
heatsink sure gets the job done. Recommended.
