FrostyTech.com Mk.II Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm copper interface die with 125W heat load on the Mk.II Test Platform. Thermal Test values for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperature at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

125w thermal test (°c) noise level (dba)
*heatsinks are ranked according to the 125w thermal test results column (rise over ambient temp.). low temperatures with low noise levels are considered best. for reference heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more detailed results reside in each specific heatsink review.

With a 125W heat load applied by the FrostyTech synthetic thermal test platform, the Zalman Fatal1ty FS-C77 heatsink yields a very good 26.7°C rise above ambient temperature result, with a moderately loud 56.5 dBA of noise produced.

As a performance-oriented heatsink the Zalman FS-C77 does well for itself, but there are several other heatsinks which dish out much better temperatures within the same noise-class.

How about the Fatal1ty version compared to the base Zalman 7700-series heatsink?

Well, compared to the identical Zalman CNPS7700-Cu heatsink which nets a rise above ambient temperature of 27.0°C (with 50.7 dBA noise), the verdict is a pretty clear one... A coating of red paint, and a slightly quicker fan (2400RPM vs. 2000RPM) does not for a super leap in performance make.

The Fatal1ty FS-C77 heatsink is a bit better than the regular Zalman CNPS7700-Cu cooler, but not significantly so, and particularly given the higher prices a "Fatal1ty" branded heatsink seems to demand.

A quick check of the major online vendors shows us that the Zalman Fatal1ty FS-C77 heatsink retails for an average of $63 USD ($71CDN, £33GBP), where as the Zalman CNPS7700-Cu retails for about $50USD ($56CDN, £26GBP) on average.

By removing the Fanmate 2 from the equation, the stock Zalman CNPS7700-Cu heatsink just about matches the thermal performance of the Zalman Fatal1ty FS-C77 heatsink, and you save $13.
