Aopen ACP4LC Pentium 4 Heatsink Review
Aopen ACP4LC Pentium 4 Heatsink Review

Abstract: Aopen's fan adaptor allows an 80mm Nidec fan to mount to the 70mm heatsink frame. The point of this, is of course to reduce the noise created by the fan by using a larger and slower rotating impeller.

The initial thermal test results for the Aopen ACP4LC are a little lower than middle of the road, but not altogether poor. We'll have to wait a moment before we can say for certain how the Aopen heatsink performs in the grand scheme of things.

In the end, the Aopen ACP4LC performs satisfactorily, but doesn't give the performance heatsinks a run for their money. Given that the stock Intel heatsinks (the all-aluminum and 3.06GHz versions) perform better, there is little incentive to switch over to this model.

While the fan adaptor is an interesting adaptation to decrease the overall sound signature of a heatsink while maintaining its level of cooling prowess, it doesn't quite seem that the Aopen ACP4LC has the right combination to seek the true advantages. Added to that the minute vibrations we experienced that added to the overall sound level and you can see that a few more revisions might just be what the doctor ordered before the Aopen ACP4LC really comes into its own.
