Abstract: Given the 70mm size, the fan is remarkably un-quiet - which can only indicate that the Taisol CEP447181 isn't a pushover.

Taisol CEP447181 Heatsink From All Angles
The Fan:
The 70mm fan measures 20mm thick and sports a nine bladed impeller. The fan produces a good little whine, and draws 0.3A. The CEP447181 lacks a protective wire grill to keep errant wires from potentially getting caught in the fan blades. The fan connects via a three-pin connector to the motherboard fan header and supports RPM monitoring.

Heatsink Top:
Fan shrouds do a few things; they act as a platform for clipping mechanisms, help direct exhaust airflow through the heatsinks fins over a longer distance, and can be used to create a plenum behind the fan for better airflow. This aluminum shroud raises the fan 5mm above the tips of the fins.

Side A:
From the side we see the all important fin pattern. A good set of extruded fins can be as effective any any skived, or folded fin types. Here we find fins of 1mm thickness, spaced 1.4mm apart. The 33mm tall fins in the center benefit from a slightly thicker base region (12mm as opposed to 10mm).

Side B:
A dead plain exterior doesn't leave much to talk about does it? The bottom edges have been countersunk to provide clearance over the HSRM.

Heatsink Base:

The sanded aluminum base is fairly flat, but not very smooth. The sanding marks are fine, and could be lapped out to deliver a bit of a performance edge though. The heatsink comes with a pre-applied patch of white thermal compound to make installation a snap.
