Eumax EU01 Copper Heatsink Review
Eumax EU01 Copper Heatsink Review
  47%
Abstract: As the Eumax EU01 is composed of two separate sets of components - a copper base and many thin copper fins - the thermal interface between these two components is very important.

Eumax EU01 From All Angles

The Fan: The fan ships without a fan grill, and rotates at 5300RPM as per the manufacturer specs. The screws which hold the fan in place attach directly to the aluminum fan grill which is indented 10mm to take the full height of the fan. The fan connects to the motherboard fan header via a 3-pin connector which also supports RPM monitoring.

Top: If you look carefully at the base of this image on the left you can see what we mean about the indented fan shroud. The fan actually sits within the body of the heatsink providing a flush surface on the top which remains a constant 28mm tall.

Side A: Fins are soldered to the base with a butt joint and there appears to be some residue of flux (possibly something else, we're not 100% positive) remaining. On the far left side you can see where the loose fin came out. It is possible that the process used to lock the aluminum shroud in place by notching in the copper just slightly cause a fracture of the solder joint.
Side B:
The clip is a little stiff for our liking, but on the plus side, provides good pressure between the heatsink and the processor core.

Heatsink Base:

The base finish of this heatsink is a mixed bag. On one hand the copper is pretty flat across the entire surface, but on the other hand the surface is pitted and marked as though the base was slammed against a rock (then sanded). There are tiny little pits, and scratches everywhere - almost as though the copper used was full of small air bubbles. In any case, thermal compound would absolutely have to be used with this heatsink, and a good deal of lapping would also help. Not very impressive.
