Kuthec KTI2000 P4 Heatsink Review

In our search for new heatsinks we often encounter new companies, or in this case a manufacturer whose products we had seen long ago on Akiba. Kuthtec (Kuang Thousand Technology Co. Ltd) are a Taiwanese based company who made some rather eye-catching heatsinks which we will be reviewing shortly here. For the moment, we are going to be concentrating on the Kuthtec KTI-2000, a brand new addition to their line of Pentium 4 heatsinks, and apparently rated at up to 2.8GHz.

While the design may seem familiar to those of you who have seen our reviews of certain Dynatron and AVC heatsinks, Kuthtec have brought in a little extra innovation and added some bottom cooling fins and a venting cut to the side. Will this be enough to bring the KTI-2000 out from the OEM class and into the range of performance coolers? For that answer, and many more, read on ;-)

Kuthtec KTI2000 From All Angles

The Fan:

The 70mm fan is rated at 0.23A and is pretty quiet in operation. The fan attaches to an aluminum fan shroud and to the fins. For the size of the heatsink, I would be tempted to add something a little bit bigger, and maybe sacrifice some of the quiet. The Everflow fan connects via a 3-pin fan header on the motherboard. On either side of the fan are the guides where the Stainless Steel clips go. The small tab prevents the clips from sliding off to the side.

Top: With the fan removed you can see two things more clearly. First off, the two clip guides are in direct contact with the tops of the fins and provide a good means of clipping down the heatsink without large bulky plastic mechanisms. Secondly, we can see that the fan is held slightly off of the fins for better airflow.

Side A: The side of the KTI-2000 is fairly plane except for the small vent cut into the center base of the heatsink. Most of the exhaust air is still forced out the left and right sides. The heatsink body itself is 37mm in height, and 83mm in length.
Side B:
Each of the 27 extruded fins tapers from 1mm thick at the base to about 0.5mm thick at the very top. The fins are each spaced 1.5mm apart and the base plate is 10mm thick. To either side of the base we can see where Kuthtec added in some bottom facing fins, and recessed them slightly. This adds a little extra surface area for cooling - but it is hard to say exactly how effective these upside down fins are.

Heatsink Base:

Base finish on the Kuthtec KTI-2000 is a standard sanded finish which is pretty even over the entire surface. Testing with the straight edge we find a very flat surface - which is exactly what we like to see. In the image to the left you can see the bottom fins which Kuthtec have added and the small vents cut into both sides of the heatsink. The flat area in the center of the heatsink is about 34mm wide.
