Dynatron DC1206BM-V Copper 1U P4 Heatsink Review
Dynatron DC1206BM-V Copper 1U P4 Heatsink Review

Abstract: The Dynatron DC1206BMV is made entirely from skived copper; it's low to the ground and cooled by a tiny 10mm thick fan so it can be used in 1U socket 478 Pentium 4 servers.

DC1206BMV Heatsink From All Angles

The Fans:
The 60mm fan is small, but for the amount of space available in a 1U server it is appropriate. The fan attaches to two steel clips which are actually screwed into the side of the copper heatsink. There is no space between the base of the fan and the tips of the fins. The fan connects via a 3-pin fan header on the motherboard.

Bare Heatsink:
With the fan removed you can see two things more clearly. First off, the heatsink is skived in two parts, and two you can see where the steel clip go in through the copper fins and cause some disruption. Each section is 38mm wide, and each fin about 11mm high.

Side A:
The base is 4.5mm thick, and the fins about 11mm tall giving the copper an overall height of roughly 14mm. The fins are spaced 1mm apart and are 0.3mm thick which is pretty standard for Dynatron.

Side B:
The heatsink is a very simple, just a fan and a block of copper to cool The fan mount screws into the side of the copper fins, and since the fan is rather short, there is little danger of fins breaking off.

Heatsink Base:
I have to say I really like the base that Dynatron have left on the DC1206BMV; not only is it nice and smooth, but it is perfectly flat throughout. I'm really tempted to modify this heatsink and test it out on some video cards by I think that would be a bit of a waste to drill into such a smooth and shinny bit of copper :)
