Abstract: The nifty little aluminum box Sibak place around their fans is just for show, but since it doesn't harm the effectiveness of the heatsink there is no point in removing it.

Acoustic Samples: Listen to this Heatsink!

The 25mm fan on this heatsink is made by a company called Everflow and draws 0.34A of current. Rotating at about 6000RPM it draws in a fair bit of air, and the fan grill protects fingers and thumbs from getting clipped. The fan screws directly into the blades of the heatsink and so any vibrations are directly transferred to the rest of the computer chassis.

Some new heatsinks are starting to use rubber gaskets to isolate some of the vibrations from high-speed fans, and this is a really good idea. In any case, this heatsink is noisy as you can probably guess from the waveform image below.

Sound Level Measurements:

Listening to the actual noise a heatsink makes allows you to hear what pure numbers alone cannot get across. To further emphasize FrostyTech's reliance on cold hard facts when evaluating a heatsink, we also take Decibel readings with a sound level meter. These results may be higher than the manufacturer's listed specs, but then again these are real world measurements.

Sibak AC02625B 59.7 dB
Dynatron DY1206BH-625 63.3 dB
Dynatron DC1206BMP 65.1 dB louder

All of the Sibak coolers land pretty high on the list of loud heatsinks. I guess that is the price you pay for trying to get more performance out of a heatsink by increasing the amount of air that is moving over it. At the very least we are glad to see the fan did not break the 60dB barrier.

Initial performance results are not placing the Sibak AE01625B quite as high as other sibak heatsinks have landed themselves. This is due to the type of heatsink, and the lack of any copper inserts for the most part. The AE01625B improves on at least one of the heatsinks we have tested from Sibak - the Twinhead AT01515B.

Well the Sibak AE01625B manages to move up at least one position, and with it gain a position which signifies it as an average OEM heatsink. This is not a bad thing by any means, but rather tells us we should look elsewhere for high-end performance systems which are overclocked. As far as any typical system will be concerned, the Sibak heatsink will offer decent cooling for the price.

The high-power fan on this heatsink really doesn't seem to be used in the best of heatsink extrusions, but perhaps this design is just been optimized for too many different processors. Since the base is just about 8mm thick the heatsink would be a good candidate for the Penitum 4 processors; though this heatsink is not compatible. Often a manufacturer will take one extrusion heatsink design and simply cut it in different ways so it will fit on a Pentium 4 platform or a socket A platform. In any event, the Sibak AE01625B is a average OEM level heatsink.
