Abstract: When it comes to application, the Pentium4 version would seem to be better suited to that processor than the AthlonXP, as you'll see in the results below.

Page: Closer Examination of the Heatsink

Titan TTC-CU9TB/SC
Heatsink From All Angles |
|
The Fan: To protect the fan from inhaling a molex
connector which could jam the impeller, the Titan TTC-CU9TB/SC comes with
a clear plastic fan grill. While this compliments the whole translucent fan
frame, I've always been partial to the wire fan grills. Wire grills don't
affect airflow at all, while squared off ones like this may. The fan
connects to standard 3-pin fan header on the motherboard, and supports RPM monitoring. |
|
Heatsink Top:
With the
fan removed we can see the chrome plated fan shroud and interlocking copper fins
below. These assemblies of
fins have become really popular of late, and given that they also increase assembly
speed are probably part of the reason why copper heatsinks have come down in price
to very reasonable levels. Each fin measures roughly 0.2mm thick, and is spaced
1mm apart. |
|
Side A: The chromed fan support and shroud attaches
directly to the copper base with four
screws. The shroud doesn't appear to have been designed to direct fan exhaust
back towards the outer
fins of the heatsink. The copper fins are 31mm tall, and 70mm long. The clip mechanism
is pretty easy to use, and locks into all three tabs on the edge of the
socket. |
|
Side B:
From the edge of the
Titan TTC-CU9TB/SC you can really appreciate
just how thin those copper fins are. About 1mm of the base of each fin is soldered
into a very thin grove cut into the copper base. The copper base plate measures 6mm
thick. |

Heatsink
Base:
With the copper base is only 45mm
x 63mm in size, which leaves 19mm worth of fin hanging out over either side. The
copper base is polished to a mirror finish, but is hardly flat. The polishing process had given the once
flat copper base a wavy appearance. While surface smoothness is excellent, surface flatness
is almost more important of a consideration...
