Given that this is an aluminum heatsink with a 60mm fan it is not surprising to find that the Taisol CEK787172 places very low in the list of reference heatsinks. The initial results for our tests on the synthetic temperature test platform with the small die interface at 100W have the CEK787172 performing only 4-5 degrees warmer than the recently reviewed copper Titan TTC-CU9TB/SC!

Without a doubt, the Taisol CEK787172 is an OEM class heatsink destined for mainstream or value-oriented PC cooling. The heatsink should be able to economically cool older AthlonXP processors within reason, but certainly won't offer anything near the low temperatures of several other heatsinks in the reference list.

With measured noise levels on the order of 50 dB, the CEK787172 doesn't even manage to cool processors quiet enough to have the redeeming feature of a low noise cooler, so we can only assume that there is thriving market for older AthlonXP-based PCs that would require a heatsink built primarily around economics.

Bottom line, the Taisol CEK787172 is not the kind of heatsink you'll want to be using with your brand new gaming rig, but should be just fine if you need an inexpensive cooler for an old PC you're turning into an MP3 file server.
