Acoustic Samples: Listen to this Heatsink!

The official Delta specs list the FFB0612SHE fan as a 50dB noise maker. Our tests as you will see in a few minutes demonstrate something a little bit louder. The acoustic sample we have below is worth checking out, and the image is probably a pretty good representation of just how loud these fans are.

To listen to this heatsink for yourself, simply click on the little pair of headphones and download the MP3 recording.

Sound Level Measurements:

Listening to the actual noise a heatsink makes allows you to hear what pure numbers alone cannot get across. To further emphasize FrostyTech's reliance on cold hard facts when evaluating a heatsink, we also take Decibel readings with a sound level meter. These results may be higher than the manufacturer's listed specs, but then again these are real world measurements.

Despite all the cooling performance 38mm Delta fans can bring to a heatsink I have to admit that I can't stand them. Don't get me wrong, I would rather have an icy-cold heatsink then a silicon melt-down, but these fans are simply to shrill, and to annoying to be worth it. Of course some of you really don't care, and that is just fine :)

Wow, we don't see this kind of a lead that often. The Dynatron Model P jumps to the top of the pack and shows us some pretty damn fine initial performance results.

This is directly as a result of the large and speedy fan, and while these results are pretty fine, the noise measurements from the previous test are down right horrible at 65 dB. With the good come the bad as they say.

After figuring out the rise above ambient temperatures we can see that the Dynatron BMP remains one very good performance heatsink. The 7000RPM Delta fan contributes in no small way to this heatsinks performance and we can see that the thermal values across the board are very good indeed.

Noise wise this heatsink will drive you crazy in about three hours. After that you will want to rip the Delta fan right off and replace it with a low noise fan. At that point cooling will drop to just good performance levels and you will again be back at FrostyTech looking for the holy grail of cooler - silent and cold. In the mean time, enjoy those three hours with the Dynatron DC1206BMP before you loose your hearing :)
