Dynatron Evo-11 Heatsink Review
Dynatron Evo-11 Heatsink Review

Abstract: Dynatron's Evo-11 heatsink hopes to make its mark with a unique implementation of 6mm heatpipes. Two rows of heatpipes, four below and three above form the base of the Evo-11 heatsink. All the heatpipes are set into a pretty hefty nickel plated aluminum base block, formed from three separate slabs of metal soldered together.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

A single 120mm fan ships with the Dynatron Evo-11 heatsink. The PWM fan rotates at 1000-2200RPM, power is supplied by a 4-pin PWM motherboard fan header. Seven 6mm copper heatpipes rise up from the two-level aluminum base block to intersect the aluminum fins. The nickel plated aluminum base measures 40x56x20mm in size.

The aluminum fins are 0.3mm thick and spaced 1.5mm apart, there is 40mm clearance at the base for adjacent motherboard components. The two rows of heatpipes are separated by 3mm of metal. The body of the Evo-11 is also offset so the fan is dead center over the CPU while the aluminum fins overhang by about 33mm.

The four bottom heatpipes of the Dynatron Evo-11 pass through the aluminum fins at the back. The three top heatpipes pass through the fins towards the front (closer to the fan). The heatsink ships with a patch of grey thermal compound pre-applied.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks, and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface Finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is Surface Flatness. This is tested with an engineers straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axis.

The base of the Dynatron Evo-11 heatsink is generally flat in both axis. The nickel-plated copper base has a slightly ridged surface finish from the machining so surface roughness is ~32 microinches.
