at 150W
Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 /
Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient
temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test

Intel processors vary in power output
between single and multi-core models, so FrostyTech tests heatsinks with two
thermal loads that represent the upper limit of each CPU family; 150W and
85W.
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775
version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal
test platform, the Kingwin XT-1264 heatsink maintains a low temperature
result of just 17.2°C over ambient at 2300RPM fan speed (45.5 dBA).
The
XT-1264 was then tested at a reduced fan speed of ~700RPM, which resulted in a
good 31.1°C over ambient with just 32.5 dBA noise.
On the
85W heat load test, Kingwin's XT-1264 heatsink managed a low 10.5°C rise over
ambient at stock fan speed, and 19.1°C over ambient at a reduced fan speed.
While the
computer BIOS frequently retains control of CPU fan speeds when
PWM-equipped heatsinks like the Kingwin XT-1264 are installed, it's nice to know that
reasonable temperatures can still be maintained should you need to operate the
fan at its quietest speed setting. Furthermore, given the thermal test results we've
seen from the Kingwin XT-1264 heatsink at full fan speed, the
asymmetrical heatpipes don't seem to be making as big an impact as
one first imagines.
Ultimately, Kingwin's XT-1264 heatsink offers up excellent
performance results at full fan speed with moderate noise output, as do the
dozen or so other heatsinks which share the exposed heatpipe design.
