Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient

the heat
output from intel processors varies, so frostytech tests with two thermal values
that represent the upper limits of existing cpu families. with a 150w heat load
applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test
platform first, the 3Rsystem Iceage 90 heatsink maintains a temperature result
of 29.4°C over ambient (47.2dBA noise) at full fan speed. This is about average
for the reference chart.
The
3Rsystem Iceage 90 was then tested on the Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic thermal
test platform with an 85W heat load, wherein it handled the situation better.
Temperatures held steady at a reasonable 18.0°C rise over ambient temperature.
Most
'tower' heatsinks in this reference list use 120mm fans, so it's interesting to
see how the 3Rsystem Iceage 90 CPU cooler stacks up against other height limited
heatsinks. The chart below lists those results a few dozen sub-115mm tall
heatsinks.

Putting
the 3Rsystem Iceage 90 heatsink results into perspective. The heatsink is
compared against a partial list of sub-115mm tall Intel heatsinks.

Out of
the top 25 sub-115mm tall heatsinks the 3Rsystem Iceage 90 comes in ~9.4°C
behind the leading model (ranked by the 150W Thermal test). The Noctua NH-C12P is the best heatsink of the bunch, in
terms of low temperature and noise output, closely followed by the Scythe Zipang.
Results
like these paint a clear picture of what to expect from the compact 3Rsystem
Iceage 90 heatsink. At 2200RPM and standing just 115mm tall, the little 92mm fan
affords the 3Rsystem Iceage 90 pretty average performance characteristics on
both Intel and AMD synthetic test platforms. A fan speed controller is included
by the manufacturer, but it's perhaps best to avoid it. Don't mess around with
the 3Rsystem Iceage 90's fan speed if you want acceptable thermal results.
