Information not expressly stated in the Final Rise above Ambient Temperature Test Results List concerns the pre-applied thermal pad (we remove this for testing any way), the number of fans on each heatsink, general fan noise and clip force observations, and ambient temperature measurements. As always, FrostyTech's Synthetic Temperature Test results for the Socket A AMD AthlonXP and Socket 478 Intel Pentium 4 platform are grouped according to the results for the 100W test die.

The AthlonXP processor has a significantly smaller surface area in direct contact with the base of a heatsink as compared to the Pentium 4, or Athlon64 chip. Some heatsinks designed to operate on both platforms fail because of this, but the Gigabyte 3D Rocket Cooler PCU22-SE performs quite well for itself in the AthlonXP portion of the synthetic temperature tests. The full copper Gigabyte 3D Cooler PCU31-VH still manages to hang onto a formidable lead however.

On the Intel Pentium 4 synthetic temperature tests, the Gigabyte 3D Rocket PCU22-SE manages similar results relative to the other reference heatsinks. The cooler performs well, coming in about middle of the pact, but still a ways behind the Gigabyte 3D Cooler Pro and PCU31-VH full copper heatsinks. Since there is no fan speed adjustment built into the PCU22-SE model (it is aimed at mainstream users) direct comparisons cannot really be made, especially considering that the two other Gigabyte coolers attained those results with the fan running at full RPM.

Still, as a multi-processor cooling solution the Gigabyte PCU22-SE performs well, with a moderate noise output of about 50 dBA. This makes it a good option for mainstream users with spacious cases. If you are looking to upgrade from one platform to another in the near future, an all-in-one heatsink such as the Gigabyte 3D Rocket PCU22-SE is a worthy option to consider.
