The initial results for the TI-A8641L look pretty good, and that is what we like to see from an emerging heatsink manufacturing technique. I don't think the cooler in its current size will have enough muster to land in the performance heatsink section, but it should do pretty well still.

There is still some room to grow before you can consider this a performance heatsink, but what we have seen is that for systems looking for a very good heatsink for the AthlonXP, the TI-A8641L has the means to deliver. Noise may come into play for home users, but I think in the office or gaming area the TI-A8641L will do quite well.

The three-prong clip on the TI-A8641L is a little stiff for my liking, but once locked onto the socket should hold the heatsink there nice and firm. Acoustically, this heatsink isn't as quiet as we would have expected from the 3800RPM fan, and as matter of fact we measured it at just over 51 dB.

What we are really interested in, however, is the thermal capability of the Thermal-Integrations design here. Can a heatsink of the traditional shape be made by just bolting together dozens of thin copper and aluminum plates? Well for the answer to that we must first look at the rise above ambient temperature results, and they tend to agree.

The Thermal Integration TI-A8641L manages to squeeze under the 50 degree mark by a nice margin, and that means it is one of the better coolers on this list of reference heatsinks.
