Cooler Master Nepton 240M Liquid Cooling System Review
Cooler Master Nepton 240M Liquid Cooling System Review
  89%
Abstract: Coolermaster's Nepton 240M utilizes a 277x120mm aluminum heat exchanger that measures 28mm thick. The 'Silencio' is a novel high-pressure fan that spins at 2400RPM-800RPM to drive up to 76CFM at 4.8mmH2O air pressure, according to manufacturer specs. Connecting the heat exchanger to the Nepton 240M's waterblock is a 310mm length of 13mm O.D. corrugated Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) tubing.

FrostyTech Mk.III Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Intel Core i7, Extreme Edition class heatsinks tested at a 200W heat load.
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm copper interface die with 200W heat load on the Intel version of the Mk.III Test Platform. Temperature results listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

200w thermal test (°c) noise level (dba)
*heatsinks are ranked according to the 200w thermal test results column (rise over ambient temp.). low temperatures with low noise levels are considered best. for reference heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more detailed results reside in each specific heatsink review.

Frostytech's socket LGA2011 Intel synthetic thermal test platform stresses socket LGA2011/1366 compatible heatsinks with a 200W heat load. Keep in mind that the AMD Integrated Heat Spreader and Intel LGA2011 Integrated Heat Spreader both measure ~38x38mm, so these test results can be extrapolated to AMD processor scenario's as well.

With a 200W heat load applied by the Intel LGA2011/1366 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Coolermaster Nepton 240M liquid cooling system yields an excellent temperature result of 15.1°C over ambient at stock fan speed.

Reducing the speed of the Nepton 240M's twin 120mm fans to 800RPM caused test temperatures to increase to a relatively average result of 24.0°C over ambient.

Conclusions

While the Coolermaster Nepton 240M and Nepton 280L share similar model names, the Nepton 240M differs not only with respect to the size of its fans and heat exchanger, but also tubing diameter. As a result of these differences, the Nepton 240M isn't quite in the same league as the Nepton 280L, or even Nepton 140XL for that matter. It is, however, quieter than both these particular AIO liquid coolers at full RPM.

Clearly, the Coolermaster Nepton 240M offers excellent thermal performance at stock fan speed on processors no matter how you slice and dice the heatsink reference charts. It's not the coolest heatsink we've ever tested, but being ~5°C off for it's noise output ain't half bad either. ;-) Recommended.
