"Better known for their motherboards and notebook PCs, Asustek has jumped on the secondary storage bandwagon that boasts competing luminaries such as AOpen. Apparently, having two CD-ROM drives (the 40x S400 and the 50x S500) and one ATAPI 8x DVD-ROM drive (E608) just isn't enough, and Asus wants to try its hand in a market currently dominated by "burn-proof" technologies and perform-as-claimed drives from Plextor, Sony and Hewlett-Packard. For Asus' drive, technically dubbed CRW-0804F, it's a testimony of how far-seeing the mobo firm is and how deep it plans to reach in an industry that is not its primary focus."
