"An operating system that has been growing lately is the Linux operating system. It was developed for the Intel 80386 in 1991 by Linux Torvalds. It was made available for free on the internet, and basically has grown through collaboration by many users around the world. The similarities to UNIX can't be denied, and it was indeed designed to be UNIX compatible. However, it has grown out of becoming just another UNIX flavor to being it's own distinct operating system and has numerous distributions."
