"By now you've heard Microsoft's plans to release MS Office 10 on a subscription basis. In short, it's a pay-as-you-go scheme. Every time you create a document, spreadsheet, or graphic you'll be required to toss a few nickels in the direction of Redmond, Washington. It's pay-per-view for your documents. One of my favorite quotes from this press release is, "Microsoft is continuing to meet evolving customer needs by offering new ways for Office customers to license and use 'Office 10.'" I have never heard a sysadmin, a typical corporate user, or average home consumer proclaim, "Gee, why doesn't someone offer a subscription-based application suite?"
