"Every once in a while, and it doesn't happen often, a product arrives at our door that not only does what the manufacturer claims it will do, but it actually exceeds our expectations and the tidal wave of hyperbole that seems to follow every retail computer part to market. Often, the opposite is true. Many products simply don't function as advertised. Some barely function at all, and you find yourself waiting for a miracle driver update or BIOS flash. We were particularly interested in Plextor's implementation of Sanyo Electric's , which Plextor claims can help eliminate buffer underrun errors. We've had more than our share of buffer underrun errors in the past, and intentionally incorporated several potential causes into our tests. The results were very encouraging. It worked better than we expected, and we couldn't ask for much more than that. As a bonus, we also looked at Plextor's CD Res-Q cloning/imaging program, which is available as a separate purchase and turns out to be a pretty good deal."
