"I'd decided that I wanted a Via Apollo Pro 133A based board, since I like
to back the underdog, and they have a lot of great features that I would
want to exploit, like AGP 4x, 1/2 AGP divider, ATA66 support, FSB +/-33MHz
RAM settings (we'll get more into that later), and extremely low price.
There are some AP133A based boards that don't conform to that last "feature"
*cough* Asus P3V4X *cough*, but for the most part, these Via boards are
pretty damned cheap. The one that I was planning on getting, fortunately
turned out to the be cheapest I could find, the Abit VT6X4, holding steady
at $81 at a number of online retailers. Unfortunately, there aren't many
reviews of the VT6X4 on the net, but Abit's reputation among the
overclocking community preceeds them. Which is something I can't say about
Aopen. I've seen a few Aopen products reviewed here and there, but they
haven't made a name for themselves in any category like Asus has for
stability, and Abit has for overclocking. So will this board from Aopen be
their breakthrough achievement, or just another ho-hum product that pushes
them further away from the greatness of the other "A" companies? Read on,
and find out."
