The current Intel motherboard / RAM debacle is well documented, and it must have seemed that Intel was at one of their lowest points when the i820 chipset MTH issue hit the web. In an effort to assuage people's annoyance over the lack of an affordable (i.e. not reliant on RAMBUS) high performance solution that has all the modern motherboard bells and whistles that the cheap i810 missed out, Intel developed i815."
