This further article by the authors goes on to suggest optimizations to the Alpha heatsink used in the study which could improve performance. I highly recommend you give the 105 page paper a quick read before submitting your entry for the Zerotherm $5000 heatsink design challenge. The authors discuss heatsink design on many levels, and in great detail.
