" The CRW8824IX, which wooed the storage crowd with its Firewire interfacing capabilities, was announced a few weeks back to complement the existing Enhanced IDE/ATAPI, SCSI-3 (Ultra SCSI) internal and external models (8824E, 8824S and 8824SX respectively). Naturally, our greater curiosity would be on how well the external drive performs on a Firewire interface compared to SCSI or IDE. The drive works on both Windows 98 SE/2000 and/or Macintosh OS 8.6/9 systems, where you'll need at least the FireWire software version 2.2.2. or later for it to work. Besides checking its compatibility with the OSes, we would also want to know if the drive works as well as the specs sheet claim. Of course, we'll give you a load of buzz on whether the drive is as user-friendly on Ahead's Nero as compared to Adaptec's Easy CD Creator."
