" All of the Pyrod discs used a Cyanine dye formulation. Some brands say
that Phthalocyanine dyes give better compatibility at higher CD writing
speeds. Advanced Phthalocyanine dye formulations are being developed for CDR
media to suit super-fast 16x, 20x, and even 24x CDR drives in the future.
But this could very well be because newer formulations are needed for faster
discs, and Phthalocyanine formulae are the only ones not patented yet. "
