"The main majority of noise is produced when the hard drive vibrates, and therefore the Silent drive is made out of several layers which "cushion" the drive. This both acts as good thermal insulation which was something we were worried about when we first saw it. There are two layers inside the plastic enclosure, one is a reflecting layer, which is lined with aluminium foil."
