D-Link DSS-16+ Desktop switch - FrostyTech.com D-Link DSS-16+ Desktop switch
Fri Dec 29, 2000 | 3:17A| PermaLink
"In this quick take, we'll be looking at the D-Link DSS-16+, a networking switch. For those unfamiliar with switches or networking technology, check out the intro the to the Intel Inbusiness 16 port switch which contains an explanation of what switches are and what they do. Dlink also provides a quick page with some networking basics . As networks become more common and technology prices continue their never- ending plunge downward, technologies previously only available to large businesses (and the rich) are finding their way into small businesses and homes. Examples of this are hubs and switches, used for facilitating communication between groups of computers. A few years ago, a switch this size would be out of the reach of most, now they are seen at local LAN parties. (Just how cheap have they gotten? When the DSS-16+ was first released, the suggested retail price was $539; it may now be had for around $250.) D-link, Intel, Netgear and other companies are now marketing these devices to larger audiences, and hubs are beginning to be seen on local computer store shelves."
