Logitech's WingMan RumblePad - Logitech's WingMan RumblePad
Fri Dec 29, 2000 | 3:35A| PermaLink
"... I was rather skeptical that the analog sticks on the RumblePad would make sufficient substitute for a much larger joystick, such as my Gravis Firebird2 (which is certainly showing it's age). However after several hours of missions in X-Wing Alliance (hey Joanne, you should be happy that I'm expanding my horizons ;) ) my mind is certainly changed. No doubt the sticks on the RumblePad do take getting used to; the difference between moving one's thumb as apposed to one's entire hand to complete a maneuver is quite large. Also having very little tension on the sticks makes over-controlling a bit too easy. However once you get the feel for it the WingMan does an amazing job. I took me a while, but after much tweaking I was able to come up with a super sweet setup (oooh... alliteration!), using the two sticks for pitch, yaw and roll, and the pad for cycling targets and components of capital ships. With the nine remaining buttons I was able to put together all my weapons and shield controls so that I wouldn't even have to touch the keyboard. Snazzy =)"
