Shouldn't high-tech firms creen their employees a little more carefully ?Mike Martinez was a good kid. Everyone said so in Marshfield, Massachusetts, just south of Boston, where he grew up and went to high school. He was the class clown with a dramatic streak -- a fun guy by all accounts. Soon after high school in that seaside town, Michael Martinez had his surname changed to "McDermott," went into the Navy, became an electrician in the private sector, married, divorced, and ran up some debt. Enough debt to inspire him to murder seven co-workers at his job as a software engineer at Edgewater Technologies in Wakefield, Massachusetts on December 26th, 2000 with a cheap AK-47 look-alike rifle, a shotgun and a pistol.
