Well, the P6VAA board is not to be blamed for its dismal performance, instead, we should point our finger at the chipset. However, ECS should not even consider using the 693A Northbridge as it does not make much logical sense for users to purchase a product with such inferior performance. Although the price difference between a 694X and a 693A motherboard can go up to as much as S$50, it is still not worth the savings. But knowing that ECS have large OEM networks, the 693A is probably a suitable candidate for low cost PCs that is under the sub-$1000 category. A savings of more than S$50 is almost enough for a 500MHz VIA Cyrix III processor. It may not seem like a very fast system, but it is probably enough to run most standard applications.
