Philips has sent us a product that may be considered the "Swiss Army Knife" of optical input. The Vesta Pro Scan can be used as a still camera, a web camera, a scanner, and an OCR device. It would also seem that in addition to being useful in many situations like a Swiss Army Knife, it also has the same problems that a Swiss Army Knife has: it can do the job, but sometimes not as well as the actual tool that it tries to duplicate.
Don't think I hate this thing; on the contrary, I think it performs as well as can be expected for a $130 product that has this many functions. As Philips continues their trek into the PC peripheral market, they have demonstrated that they are trying their best to add value along with the features in their products, as we have seen before in their Acoustic Edge sound card.
