Without a doubt the most popular hardware component to overclock is a user's processor, as overclocking the processor is typically the best procedure to net the most impressive performance results in benchmarking applications and real world performance, but a form of overclocking that has gained a lot of merit in the past few years is overclocking the videocard, which, just as overclocking the processor, is a venerable artform performed by thousands of hardware enthusiasts worldwide to improve the performance of their tweaked out boxes, but the most noticeable improvements can be seen in 3D games and graphics application in which the increase in effective fill rate and memory bandwidth from overclocking the core and memory frequency of your graphics accelerator will yield noticeable performance results, sometimes as much as 20% in the higher resolutions, which can be the equivalent performance increase of slapping in a brand new processor.
