For the longest time Creative Labs was really the only deal in town when it came to having advanced audio on your desktop PC. Within the last couple of years we've started to see a shift of power so to speak. Thanks to advanced new hardware and open APIs like EAX, DirectSound, and A3D, Creative Labs isn't the choice if you want cutting edge audio. With their acquisition of Hercules, Guillemot has gone to great strides to make sure they not only revive a name that has a loyal following, but also to extend its legacy of branding by making it a name associated with audio as well.
