While the Plextor makes use of Sanyo's Burn Proof Technology, Yamaha uses their own "Waste-Proof Write Strategy". This exclusive write strategy maximizes stability of the recording environment by combining a large buffer memory (8 Megs in this case), CAV writing support for on-the-fly data backup, and specific fine-tunings to the recording software, resulting in elimination of buffer underruns and waste of media. That's the theory. In real life, Waste-Proof is no match for Burn Proof as the Yamaha drive produced its fair share of coasters.
