Mouse pads were something that used to be irrelevant to the way a computer ran. A professional gamer would use one of those large, sticky cloth pads that were almost impossible to use by today's standards, or create their own alternative to a mouse pad. Today a mouse pad is not referred to as a mouse pad, but it is referred to as a mouse surface or a gaming surface.
The first major step in the mousing surface development would have been the 3M precision mouse pad. This surface was excellent and well ahead of the other's, even by today's standards it is superb and a lot of people still use it. The next step would have been the Everglide's. The Everglide mousing surface was one that sparked a lot of interest in the gaming area and created a new level of gamers. Today if you are a gamer and do not have one of these advanced mousing surfaces you are simply at a loss compared to other gamers
