Nothing spells boredom worse than a market that has only one dominate product. Last year, we watched helplessly as Aureal faded into the cyber-graveyard, leaving Creative Labs as the only sound card manufacturer for gaming systems. Such dominance breeds complacency, in my opinion. Take 3dfx for example. Rather than push the envelope, they seemed content at the top, and allowed a little company called NVIDIA to slowly gain market share and eventually crush 3dfx.
