"It has taken a long time, but finally PC sales are slowing down. Why do I think that's a good thing? Simple. No longer must I buy a personal computer today only to find that the software I buy tomorrow needs an even faster PC. What I should be doing is downgrading to the next machine, not upgrading.
Try this exercise: Get up from behind your desk, go for a walk around your workplace and count how many computers are running the same operating system, how many have the same applications, and then work out how much processing capacity all these computers have."
