Technology is forever changing and a lot of people find it hard to keep up. There's always something new whether that be a CPU, Graphics Card, RAM, Hard Drive or Mainboard. Well, today it's a mainboard and not
just any mainboard, the AV32 is Shuttle's latest solution for Pentium III/Celeron users. The AV30 was Shuttle's first stab at the VIA VT8633/VT8233, but the AV30 only had support for DDR memory. People found the idea of having both SDR and DDR memory support much more appealing, so Shuttle created the AV32 which supports both formats, the AV32 also has a few more little refinements.
Nearly a month ago we reviewed the MSI Pro266 Master board and had our first glimpse of the VIA Apollo Pro 266 chipset. The Shuttle board is very much like the MSI board, the main difference being that the AV32 has one less DDR slot. The AV32 board is 2cm slimmer than the MSI board making it fit much more comfortably into my ATX case. With five PCI slots, one AGP slot, one ACR slot and the VIA VT8633/VT8233 chipset, the AV32 also boasts six USB ports!
