REMEMBER BACK IN 1991, when the brand-new Minidisc medium was poised to make CDs obsolete? Back then, a 486 was a powerhouse, MP3s didn't exist, Intel ruled the processor world, and Windows 3.1 was a year away. A lot has happened in almost a decade, and CDs most certainly haven't been replaced, but Minidiscs are still kicking around. By now, their competition in the digital arena isn't just CDs anymore. There are MP3 players to deal with, and hybrid players that play both MP3s burned onto CD and normal audio discs. Yet, despite all this, Sony is still pushing its MD technology. If they're still going strong after all these years, there has to be something to it. In any case, almost a decade is plenty of time to refine a product, so the Minidisc devices out there should be at the top of their game.
