With Intel's introduction of the Pentium 4 1.7GHz and the 50% price cuts across the entire Intel line of microprocessors, we now see a more appealing package from Intel. Add that to the fact that RDRAM prices are dropping to affordable levels now and this new stage of the microprocessor wars could have apocalyptic connotations for its strongest competitor, AMD and their Athlon/DDR platform. The success of the Pentium 4 line lies squarely on the performance and stability of the supporting 850 chipset."
