"Vertex shaders are one of the new features packed into the geForce3. Vertex shaders allow developers to operate on certain vertices that have a distinct set of properties. As nVidia describes it, you can consider vertex shaders as a "magic box". Vertex Shaders do not create or delete
vertices, but simply operate on, and change the values of the data that describe each vertex. The vertex that emerges may have a different position in space, a different color, a different texture, or become more or less transparent."
