"For quite some time now, Creative Technologies with their range of SoundBlaster cards have held a monopoly on the sound card market. The most recent threat to Creative was Aureal (a spinoff of the also defunct MediaVision), who despite producing some truly excellent cards, as well as developing the incredible A3D2/A3DVerb sound API's, is now dead, buried and under the thumb (and direct ownership) of Creative. Sales were lacking among gamers due to poor drivers and lack of API support. Despite strong sales in the budget OEM market, the company was doomed by the financial burden of its ongoing legal disputes with Creative. Just when it looked as though Creative was going to get the chance to get complacent, Guillemot releases what is possibly the most worthy contender to the Live! to date."
